There were nights when the lights were barely on,
And Mama said the heater’s fine, just throw another blanket on.
Dinner on the table, just enough for two,
She’d smile and say, “I already ate,” but we knew the truth.

Never had the best, but we always had enough,
She worked two jobs, never once gave up.
We had shoes on our feet and backpacks full,
While she wore the same old coat through every winter’s cold.

Didn’t do big vacations, that wasn’t what we wanted,
Instead we’d pack up the tents for some days by the water.
Days like that were some of the best in our life,
Whatever momma was doing she was doing right.

We never saw the struggle, never felt the weight,
She carried all the worry just to keep us safe.
Put her dreams on hold, her needs on the shelf,
So her babies never had to feel the hand she was dealt.
And now that we’re grown, we finally see,
She gave up the world just to raise you and me.
She’s more than a parent, she’s our rock and our trust,
She’s the hero we needed…
And she did it all for us.

There were birthdays she skipped her own cake,
To pay the rent and keep the bills at bay.
Nights when we’d have dinner at a friend’s place,
Just so we’d have something on our plate.
We thought the world was perfect, we never knew,
She was stitching broken pieces just to hold us through.

Now we hear the stories in the lines on her face,
All the battles fought with quiet grace.
We tell our kids about the one who taught us to be strong,
And hope they’ll know what real love looks like all along.
She wanted to raise us better than she was raised herself,
That’s why she put her needs up on that shelf.

So if you’re a kid wondering why life’s not fair
One day you’ll see the love hiding there
Behind every sacrifice and every fuss…
Is a parent doing all they can —
Just like ours did for us
