I’m not a hero, but I served with a few
Proud Americans through and through
Answering the call, so honorable of them
Raised their right hand and said “I will support and defend”
One day a year, the last Monday in may
Americans will observe, Memorial Day
American flags, placed by the graves,
In honor of their sacrifices, this memorial day
For some of us, their always on our mind
Memorial day is not the only time
Never forgotten, especially on this day
Always remember, say their name
Around this time of year, some special tables may be set
For heroes that you may have known, and those you’ve never met
Its a special table, set all alone
For those that served their country and did not come home
A white table cloth on a table so tall,
For the purity of their motives when answering the call
A single red rose, stands in a vase
For those that loved them keeping their faith
There’s a red ribbon, tied in a bow
For accounting for the missing, till they all come home
A slice of lemon, for their bitter fate
Salt for the tears of those that have endured the wait
The candle, lit bright, a beacon of hope
That alive or dead, they will return home
One nation under god, We gain strength through our faith
Reminded by the bible set proudly in place
They can’t share a toast with us, they can’t be here today
The inverted glass reminds us of their fate
As the seat sits empty, its status unclaimed
May today be the day, you say their name
For some of us, their always on our mind
Memorial day is not the only time
Never forgotten, especially on this day
Always remember, say their name
